Dearest Amiel,
I hope this letter finds you well, warm, and as merry as circumstances allow during another trying winter.

I’ve enclosed a poster and pair of wax cylinders from the fall festival production of ‘Dog Of The Crossroads.’ What an experience, and all put on by that little book club! Not professional by any means, but very lovingly rendered — I laughed, I cried, I gasped when the papier-mâché leg fell out of the trunk, even though I was waiting for it all through the first act.

What rotten luck that you weren’t able to attend! (Honestly, a blood pox on your sheep and the turnips going feral in one month??? Maybe you should make an offering for good luck next time you find yourself near a plaque.) If anyone this side of the Marchmont Mountains deserved to be in the front row, it was you — I can think of no other I know with stronger (or more correct!) opinions on Community Theater, or as dog-eared (ha ha) a copy of the Crossroads Quartet on their bedside table.

Cattor from town did the score — did you know they attended the Lycée Saint-Sébastien??? I’m sure you did, but people around here never cease to surprise me.

You must let me know your thoughts, in length and detail about the production. (Please note the literal howl in the entr’acte? Isn’t the titular dog supposed to be a metaphor? Guess I’ll have to actually attend the book club next time to unwrap that mystery.) I tried to grab a cylinder of “After the Incident” or “March of the Marionettes,” but they were all snapped up by the time I elbowed my way through the post-show crowd. Please enjoy “The Devil’s Machinations — Skeleton Reprise” (crimson label); and “Alexei, Alone.” (black/dark blue striped label.)

Remember, length and detail! I want your full report for our next coffee date at the Glacier. The strudels will be on me.

Warm regards,
Larch
